The question that Repubs must ask themselves, when it comes to public
investment in the structures of civilization is, Whats in it for me? Is
there a quarterly return on investment?

I don't think anyone would argue that public facilities offer a better
shopping experience than private ones.

If a Repubs have enough money so that they can avoid troublesome public
facilities, they will oppose them "on principal".

Since very few of them can afford to buy their own roads and sports
stadiums, they favor those 'investments'.

Wealthy people don't use libraries or public schools or buses or public
clinics, so they oppose those as 'giveaways'.

Ironically, the more that some people have benefited financially from the
success of American Civilization, the more likely they are to oppose its
facilities.
