Brian, I know that there are many factors at work here. Some of the
"charity" work that Clear Channel trotted out during the referendum a few years ago
was embarrassing in its "We *love* Clear Channel!!!!" enthusiasm. (PLease note
that the charities change on a regular basis.) Some of the property owners
don't care -- they want the income, no bones about it. Some of the more
obnoxious billboards are on property that Clear Channel has bought up and owns
(Victoria and Jefferson).

But yeah, If they can claim that their first amendment rights to buy up all
the space on the planet they want would be violated should they ever ever have
to take down a billboard teetering precipitously over a school bus stop full
of children (Tuscarora and W7th), then surely I have the right to tell the
advertisers - whether they pay for the space or not - why I choose not to
buy/use/donate to their product.

So who wants to work with me to join the Highway Federal Credit Union and run
for the Board of Directors on a "why do we advertise on billboards anyway,
for crying out loud?" platform?

Oh, and John: You and I both know the world doesn't make sense. We all just
do what we can to move it a bit toward what we perceive as rational. I
wouldn't for a moment suggest that your notions or my notions are the best, but you
and I know that the synergy they create when combined like a cake mix in a
350 degree oven (or a 1400 degree thermal oxidizer) works like a charm.
