Is it safe to assume that if Joe Schmoe created two jobs (selling things to
Gander* Mtn's 200 employees, e.g.) downtown, he would get $15,000? Wait a
minute... 200 jobs times "up to $3,000 per job" equals up to
$600k....hmmm... If Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe moved 20 lawyers here, they
should get $150k (or $60k, whatever the case may be).
On what exactly will the $1.5M be spent? Who decides that? A Gander
Mountain retail outlet might've been even better, or could/should be added.
My current visitor wants to buy a MN Vikings jersey and I have no idea
where to go for one in St. Paul. Maybe there's a Tarkenton one at Sophie
Joe's...
But who wouldn't be for them coming to town? The price just seems a wee
high, and we still want the world's finest women's shoe and boot store. On
the street, not in the skyway or "indoor park." Dayton's is losing it's
appeal - time to replace their departments one shop at a time. But I
digress...
Kudos to Lowertown, especially the nice, "new" knitting mill or whatever it
was, across from "Gander Mountain." Two thumbs down on the Faultier Plaza
remodel. Some people's architects...
*(they're not sexist, are they?!)

PM St. Paul?
According to today's Pioneer Press, Gander Mountain Co. is
considering moving 200 jobs to downtown St. Paul.
"But city sources who have knowledge of the discussions said St. Paul
is dangling as much as $1.5 million in economic development funds in
front of Gander."
Any comments?

Firm may relocate HQ to downtown
"The money would come from the city's Strategic Investment Fund,
which pays companies that relocate to St. Paul. The Capital City
Partnership, a CEO-led group that pushes for downtown development,
helps administer the investment fund for St. Paul.
Under the program, companies can be eligible for up to $3,000 per job
they bring to the city. The money would come in the form of a
"forgivable loan," which, if the company agrees to stay a certain
amount of time - say, 10 years - does not have to be repaid."
