Excuse me, but this went off of the table because the Mayor vetoed it and chastised the author of the ordinance for proposing the idea. Which was lesson one for the proponents, don't offer compromises that the other side hasn't agreed to. >Opponents of the ban want bars excluded with 50% or less food. The proponents of the >ban won't >even consider this to be voted on, so it had to be pulled. Wrong again, the proponents of the ban amended the proposal to 50% food/booze and then it was withdrawn by the author. Again, neither the Mayor nor the bar owners have said they would support this partial ban. I encourage everyone to ask a bar/restaurant owner if he/she is OK with the ban being on them and not on the non-food bar across the street. See how fast they throw you out of the bar if you suggest it. >Seems to me only the opponents of the ban are talking compromise. Since any talk of >ANY ban is a compromise >to the opponents. So to me the only ones not willing to compromise and taking the >low ground >are the proponents. The proponents are taking an all or nothing stand. > OK - somebody tell what it is that the Mayor has said he would support... a "regional solution." Anyone have any idea what region? What kind of solution? Anyone have any detail as to the starting point in this negotiation? Folks help me here. I don't care one way or another about the ban, I smoke. But, I think I will go mad when I hear people say that the Mayor has said he will compromise, but can't tell me what his position is. You are not negotiating if you don't offer what your starting point is.
