Don't sweat it Cristy. Some characters like to incite things and the winky face at the end is a dead give-away.

Wow. I'm just sitting here shocked at the misogynist implications of this post. Shocked. But don't worry - I won't cry about it here on the public forum.

I had no idea my gentle post imploring people to vote even if "for or against" an unopposed incumbent would provoke such a strong negative response from a few. It was gratifying to read several affirmative responses as well.

I'm temporarily speechless (even more shocking to many of you, I know) so I will give some thought to making a response or just setting this aside without dignifying it with any direct response.

Yeah, but was she in Vietnam? I thought that was a prerequisite these days.
Look, I've lived in St. Paul all my life and I know that the 4th district
congressional seat is reserved for democrat party hacks who keep the seat
for as long as they want it. I can live with that as long as the dems
remain in the minority in congress. No harm, no foul. And her GOP
challenger (Patrice what's-her-face) is certainly no one to write home
about, so my comments are not a campaign message. I just think it's
laughable that anyone would consider "Bett'ee" a serious player in the
scheme of things and attempt to give her any kind of disingenuous credit for
her abilities. She's in a safe seat and she's been awarded by the party
with life-time employment because she was a good soldier in the Vento camp.
My only point is that she's done nothing to earn my respect and from what
I've seen so far, she never will. So what? But I would never want to
debate Betty. I don't like seeing women cry.

I believe that Mr. Tester and others who lack any respect for the choice
of
the people is the first thing I would like to address. Ms. McCollum got
into office because the majority of her constituency voted for her.

Secondly, there are many people in office that will not get my vote this
election year, however, the choice of the people should always be
respected.
It isn't like Ms. McCollum does not have the education or the expertise or
experience by holding other offices to not be qualified to run and hold
office. As far as what types of jobs she has held in the past, I find Mr.
Tester's demeaning tone quite remarkable. That one would show their lack
of
understanding so blatantly for all of the citizens on this forum to
behold.

Most people who have not worked a variety of jobs lack a basic
understanding
and empathy for those who have. I think the fact that Ms. McCollum worked
in retail is a great asset. I have worked in retail, and I would state
that
most everyone who frequents this list has worked in retail. This
experience
makes her uniquely qualified to understand that the retail world is the
final frontier where lack of health insurance, and other benefits permeate
the workplace.

To not honor good, hard and honest work, whether it be retail, or someone
that hauls away our garbage or repairs our roads, or cleans out our public
restrooms and workplaces, smacks of ignorance and elitism. All work that
is
honest should be honored and respected.

I would guess the next thing we will hear about from Mr. Tester is that a
woman can't do the job as well as a man can.

In case that is true, I would just like to reaffirm that we are no longer
in
the Jurassic Age.

Ms. McCollum is doing an honorable job, and as long as her constituency
thinks the same thing, I would imagine she will be in Washington. Those
that have the courage to run against her have that right and should be
applauded. Those naysayers that seem to be armchair judges these days
should try running themselves. It is the hardest job you will ever do.

Mr. Tester, seeing you seem to have all the time in the world to
criticize,
you must have wonderful solutions that Ms. McCollum has not tapped yet.

However, I don't see your name on the ballot.

Which is ... Betty's lucky she's a democrat in a safe seat because she hasn't done
diddly squat for this district. I suppose it's as much as could be
expected, since her last job was clerking at Dayton's. She's just going
to
float through the rest of her political life, living large on
congressional
pay and occasionally giving the standard partisan speech just to remind
her
supporters that she's still in D.C. What a pathetic replacement for Bruce
Vento.

It's so important to cast a vote. If you do not,
you are effectively
endorsing the incumbent, which may be fine if
you're happy with the work
they are doing. However, if you do not favor the
incumbent, you should enter
a "blank" vote at minimum to register your
disapproval.

Since I highly approve of the work McCollum is
doing, and most of the stands
she takes, I felt it important to affirm her
candidacy. It's also an
education in the 4 other people who are running,
since I am generally out of
the loop on other parties and I always find it
interesting to see who else
is on the ballot.
