As many of us know, the issue of diversity on PTO committees and Site Councils is an important topic that many parent groups in our city are dealing with. In schools in which white students are usually less than half the population, many parent organizations are overwhelmingly white.
This often leads to situations of distrust and suspicion of parent organizations, by communities of color.
NEAT has initiated a public forum, which we hope will help Parent Organizations begin to deal with this problem. This forum is open to the public and anyone may attend. District Council folks might also have something to share or learn in this discussion.
If you know someone on a site council or PTO, please forward this info to them.
This event will be interactive with opportunities for multi-cultural small group discussions about this problem. Please, join us. Here are the details:
