I hate the disrepair of the roads all over the city. We are paying taxes for upkeep I love downtown and wish there would be a quaint shopping area much like Grand Avenue, except with free parking. If Saint Paul wants to attract traffic to downtown, they have to be ready to provide the free parking the shopping malls in the burbs do. Maybe just have free parking on the street on Saturdays and Sundays.
I generally like the police force and think we have it all over the Minneapolis Police. I like the small town feel of Saint Paul. I love our green space. Our museums. Our free zoo - in Como Park, and I love the bike trails that we are starting to develop more. I would like to see the historic trolley shuttle folks from areas like Rice and University downtown to the farmers market, and from Grand Avenue to West 7th and to downtown. I love the restaurants in the small town diner tradition like the Copper Dome on Randolph, the Coffee Cup on Rice and Arlington, Keys Restaurants on 10th and Robert and Larpenteur and Lexington. I would love to see a multiple movie theatre in the Midway area, say at the old vacated Mervyns store across from Herbergers. I love the classic car cruising on University in the summer and fall. I would love to see a PRT or Taxi 2000 that would run between the campuses in Saint Paul. Hamline to Macalester and Saint Thomas as well as Saint Catherines, William Mitchell, Saint Paul Tech, Metro State and perhaps to the U of M Saint Paul Campus. I would like to see the originally proposed historic trolley car that was in the original plans when the Port Authority re-furbed Bandana Square to run between there and Como Park as was originally proposed, and perhaps run it down Energy Park Drive to the Midway Stadium on game nights as well as the opposite direction down to Rice Street. I would like to continue to see more new businesses move to the North End in the Rice Street Area, as well as continue to spruce up University Avenue. The new Mai Village Restaurant on University and Western is just an awesome space and an enjoyable place to come together with friends for good food. I think the Minnesota History Center is a jewel as is the New Science Museum and the Children's Museum. I love the Fitzgerald Theatre and would love to see more events held there as well. I would like to see the old Landmark brewery restored as an historic place by making it into another great quaint hotel and or condo and retail space, with the old brewhouse being turned into a great bar and grill with micro brews and great food to accompany it. I think that it could be a great attraction and is a good location for those who are looking for another great eatery. We don't need anything else that will harm the neighborhood. What I dislike right now in Saint Paul is that the street illegal motorized scooters that are not street or sidewalk legal in Saint Paul are driving us crazy in our neighborhood in the Como Park neighborhood in the Wheelock/Dale area. They are noisy, not unlike a leaf blower being ridden down the street, full throttle. So much for our peaceful neighborhood.
