I can't add alot to what Pam said, but will make an observation.
While not personally a participant in the impromptu Saturday night University cruises, I know people who have been, and many have been "driven" away by the heavy handed tactics of the SPPD. It was widely felt that then-Chief Finney was trying to force traffic downtown for his own pet show on Kellogg.
Much as River Drive used to have "bike days" and Summit is closed for the Marathon, it would be neat if University could be dedicated for a few Saturdays, if not every Saturday, between Snelling and Prior, for "Hot Rod Nights."
Most of these guys are the nicest people you would ever want to meet and they have invested thousands of dollars and hours of sweat into their beauties.
OTOH, I like the informality of this "free event" and wish the SPPD would lay off and let it happen.
