Former Congressman Tim Penny, a Senior Fellow at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and Co-director of the Humphrey Institute Policy Forum, will speak on the economy and the deficit in 2004 election politics at the second Member Meetup hosted by the League of Women Voters St. Paul (LWVSP).

Date and Time: Wednesday, October 13, 2004, 6:00-7:30 pm
Location: MISSISSIPPI MARKET, 622 Selby Avenue, at Dale Street, in the upstairs Community Room. There is a deli in the Market where a light dinner can be purchased and brought upstairs. Please park in the overflow lot, across Hague Avenue.
Tim Penny represented Southeastern Minnesota's First Congressional District from 1982 through 1994. He served on the U.S. House agriculture and veterans affairs committees and the Select Committee on Hunger, heading the foreign agriculture and hunger subcommittee. While in Congress, Penny founded and co-chaired the Democratic Budget Group and drafted deficit-cutting initiatives. He continues to work in the areas of federal budgeting, agricultural policy, trade issues, and rural development. He is a board member and policy chair of a budget watchdog group, the Concord Coalition, and is an advisory board member for a clean-campaign project, the Minnesota Compact. Co-author of two books, Common Cents and Payment Due, he is a regular public speaker, radio commentator, and editorial writer.
LWVSP Member Meetups are monthly, informal get-togethers designed to explore vital civic issues and provide an opportunity for citizens to learn about the League in an informal environment. All Member Meetups are free and open to both League members and the general public. Upcoming events include:
