1. NEAT Newsletter.  We had so much to talk about we decided to produce a newsletter!

2.  NEAT Fall Kick-Off:  Embracing Diversity, Monday, September 27, 7:00-8:30pm, Rondo 
Education Center Red Atrium, 560 Concordia Avenue, enter yellow doors (attached flyer 
includes Hmong, Somali, Spanish translations)  What barriers do parents from our 
cultural communities experience in connecting with the schools?  What can we do to 
strengthen parent-family-school connections for ALL Saint Paul families?  This forum 
is designed as a LISTENING SESSION where parent group leaders can LEARN about the 
concerns of the parents they represent.  Take what you learn "Back to School" to begin 
addressing the barriers experienced by the parents from our cultural communities!

4. KIDS VOTING SAINT PAUL!

NEAT is looking to recruit 6 or 7 parent volunteers at each of the schools that will 
be polling places on Nov 2.  Please check the list at www.stpaulneat.org/Schools.html

5. Saint Paul Public School's Parent Leadership Directory

Help NEAT update the districtwide "Saint Paul Public School's Parent Leadership 
Directory."  NEAT is compiling a directory of parent group contacts to facilitate 
networking and information sharing among parent groups. You do not need to be a member 
of NEAT to be listed in the parent group directory.  A Parent Group Directory form was 
sent to each parent group and site council chair last week and is available online at 
www.stpaulneat.org/Membership.html (NOTE: Membership is optional; we're just saving 
paper.)

6. NEAT October Program: "Education Funding - Another Year of Cuts?" - Mark Your 
Calendar!
Thursday, October 28, 7:00 -8:30pm, Location TBD.  How did we get to where we are 
today?  What can we expect come spring, IF the legislature does nothing but roll over 
current funding levels?  Keynote Speakers:  Mary Cecconi, State Director, Parents 
United Network and Lois Rockney, Saint Paul Public Schools CFO

NOTE:  We just learned there's a conflict on the 28th with the Rondo Red Atrium so the 
location in the newsletter is NOT CORRECT.  Watch for updates.

7. Ramsey County Parent Leadership Collaborative
Are you interested in Early Childhood Issues and K-12?  The Collaborative may be the 
place for you!  The Ramsey County Parent Leadership Collaborative is a new initiative 
formed to raise awareness about Early Childhood Issues.  NEAT was instrumental in the 
formation of the Collaborative and is working to help parents involved in Early 
Childhood programs make the transition to K-12.  The Collaborative has scheduled two 
House Parties on Oct 7 & Oct 12, and will be hosting a six-week Online Discussion 
about Early Childhood Issues for Saint Paul parents and community members concerned 
about Early Childhood issues from Sept 20 to Oct 29.  For more information, see

8. Leadership Training
Looking for leadership training?  Check into these leadership programs open to parents 
and community members working to support public education in Saint Paul:



Neighborhood Leadership Program: Building Connections to Community
Wilder Foundation and the Saint Paul Public Schools Community Education Office are 
collaborating to offer this great community-based leadership training program Saturday 
mornings, Oct 2 through Nov 13 at Arlington High School.  For more information, see

5th Annual Statewide LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE, Oct 10-12
Open to leaders at all levels volunteering in Saint Paul site councils and parent 
groups!  Sponsored by the Saint Paul Public Schools Office of Leadership Development.
