On Monday, October 4th, 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. the Lexington Hamline Community
Council and partners are hosting a community meeting regarding the future of
the southwest corner of Lexington and University. Wellington Management
owns the old shopping center on the southwest corner and is still in the
process of finalizing development plans. At a previous community meeting in
July, Wellington presented their plans and answered questions.

This meeting will open with brief introductions on topics including: what is
the City's policy with regard to living wage jobs? What is its policy with
regard to affordable housing, and what is "affordable" housing? What is
"transit-oriented development"? How do plans for Lexington and University
compare to other recent development projects in the area? The remainder of
the meeting will be dedicated to giving those in attendance the opportunity
to discuss the kinds of features that they would like to see in the
development at Lexington and University, and in development on University
Avenue in general.

If you need childcare, transportation, or translation services in order to
attend the meeting, please call 645-3207.

On Wednesday, October 6th, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a public hearing in
front of the St. Paul City Council regarding University UNITED and Lex-Ham
Community Council's appeals of St. Paul Planning Commission decisions to
allow Wellington Management to split the lot into three pieces, and to sell
one of those lots to Aldi's grocery store (which would build a one-story
store at University and Dunlap - see www.universityunited.com
<http://www.universityunited.com/> for more details about the proposed
Aldi's and the history of this project). This is the public's opportunity
to comment on the lot-split and the site plan for Aldi's. UNITED and
Lex-Ham have opposed splitting the lot and approving the Aldi's site plan
before the overall plan for the entire site is approved, and because the
Aldi's proposal, by itself, is not consistent with transit-oriented
development. Despite taking this position, UNITED and Lex-Ham are still
hoping to work with Wellington Management and the City of St.Paul to get the
best possible development at this critical corner.
