Divide and then Conquer seems to be the method that they have chosen to do in order to get this thing through. First you divide up the road, show that you can fit a middle lane without reducing parking and still allow a single lane of traffic to flow.

This is just a little too conspiratorial for my taste.

Now, don't get me wrong. Its my understanding that the busway project was never canceled, simply post-poned due to budget issues - so IT WILL likely come back.

HOWEVER, I doubt that the re-striping of West 7th has anything to do with it (which is what John described). The city has been restriping lots of city streets in a similar fashion. Fairview has been restriped, parts of Lexington have been restriped, I believe that Grand was restriped not too many years ago.

The idea of reducing traffic to one lane in each direction seems to be very popular at the moment - and West 7th was a likely, regardless of the busway issue.

Now, no matter what the city does and for whatever reason, someone will devise some hidden conspiracy to explain it. But, I'm having a hard time seeing the connection between the restriping of West 7th and a busway. Sometimes the obvious explanation is the best one.

Anyone else.......?
