In this case a conspiracy theory is probably warranted - the traffic
volume on W 7th is, I believe, much higher than other streets that
have been restriped. In any case, restripping was suppose to be used
for residential streets such as Lexington and Fairview ("my" street)
to calm (slow) down traffic.
West 7th is obviously not a residential street.
Restripping contra-indicated for W 7th.
No, I'm buying the conspiracy theory.
BTW, an elected official friend of my mine who is a closet transportation
policy wonk claims that this busway thing only looks stupid on the
surface. According to him, the project is all about getting a dedicated
right-of-way as a prelude to a leg of light rail - down town St. Paul to
the airport. That's why the budget was, what, $40M? As opposed to
something, anything, more rational.
