Two thoughts one on what is a "centrist" and the other on the DFL in St. Paul. The
problems the party has with voter identification is do to most people in St. Paul
being ID'ed as DFL. Very little effort is done by the state party to ID Democrats in
a SD 65 because about 80% vote DFL, what's the point? During a general election, you
call them all! The party has much better data basis for swing districts where
campaign after campaign spends money to ID the voters and HOPE that their GOTV is
calling 80% DFL'ers! Get it? Anyone who has done phone banks would know that hitting
4 out of 5 correctly would be a great night. So, using this year as an example, would
any of the DFL legislative candidates waist a dime to ID their districts? They all
got close to 70% of the vote, what would have been the point? I'm sure the DFL phone
banks were being used to try and ID every democrat in the 6th congressional district
where it would do some good.

On being a "centrist." There are two ways to look at it, you could be mushy middle
and have no passion, guaranteed for defeat or you could be someone who does not follow
a traditional view of the parties. You could support both the first (hated by the
GOP) and the second (targeted by many of my friends) amendment! You could support
government assistance for both schools and economic development! You could support
keeping the government out of your religion and your bedroom! Get it, you could be
for Gay Rights and against open displays of pornagraphy... Never mind you would
probably just piss off both sides.
