The streetcar is, practically, a bus. They are considered more reliable timing-wise, they don't pollute, and they're cute. But they're really not a "high speed" option by any stretch.

Long, long ago -- 1989, I think -- I drew up what I thought could go at the end of Smith Ave and Kellogg. I called it a "Transit Hub". Little did I know that my ideas might be used as part of something as stupid as a busway!

But the idea was that streetcars from Selby and Grand/Seventh would come in to a central location near the arena, and then go out from there to 5th and 6th, maybe a few other places. Another similar hub over by Union Depot, which incidentally would make a great train station, would be connected by these streetcars.

Why streetcars and not buses? The tracks in the ground and the overall cuteness make it pleasant for visitors, and give the appearance or reliability.

Could this run also all the way out 7th? Maybe. I'd want to keep it a bit tight at first, run it as an experiment. But sure, why not? If the ridership justified it and the cost wasn't insane, I'm all for it.
