Local 844 (St. Paul School District Clerical and Technical Employees) is in very difficult set of negotiations. On November 30th, the union presented their final offer to the employer, which announced the next day a 6% budget shortfall for the '05/'06 school year. The current contract expired July 1st. Among the issues is the fact the employer pays more per month in health insurance for high-paid employees than for low-paid employees; $850 per month for superintendents with six figure incomes, and $575 per month for Local 844 members, who average $32,000/year. Please call the School Board members and ask them to support AFSCME Local 844 in contract negotiations and support affordable health insurance for all workers.
