On the other hand, you could use these numbers to remind the school board members that their job is to represent all the citizens of St Paul, and to be sure the children are being well educated, while controlling costs for the taxpayers. The unions represent the interests of employees, and the school board represents the interests of the employer and the citizens. We expect our city to pay fairly, but not to over pay. Providing more pay and benefits for more valuable (read higher paid) employees is the way our economy works.

We can support affordable health care for all by supporting a national plan open to all. Increasing health benefits for public employees does not benefit all workers, just public workers.

Call your school board and remind them who they work for.

Bob Treumann, Saint Paul

Please call the School Board members and ask them to support AFSCME Local 844 in contract negotiations and support affordable health insurance for all workers.

Please call before Tuesday, December 7th.
