The candidates for District 4 County Commissioner that I know of are the
following:
Jim Mogen -- filed -- provided a post to this list including contact info
Ken Iosso -- filed -- See bio below.
Toni Carter -- definitely running, according to Kerri Allen, but don't know if
she's filed yet. Currently St Paul School Board Chair.
Stuart Alger -- seriously considering a run. Will probably decide and announce
sometime this week. Currently Board Member of University United, representing
Lexington-Hamline Neighborhood Assn.
Does anyone else know of others that may be running?
Here is a bio that Ken Iosso sent me:
I was born 40 years ago in Summit, NJ. My parents were both teachers (Mom â
English, Dad - French). We were good democrats where there were very few good
democrats. In 2nd grade they took a poll of the students in my classroom
regarding who weâd vote for President and Nixon won 30-3, with my twin
brother, myself, and our next door neighbor - also the daughter of a teacher
and a good friend - the only dissenters.
I came to Minnesota in 1983 to go to Macalester College. I got an English
major with honors and graduated in 1987. Iâve lived in the heart of this
district ever since. I lived on Selby Avenue near Snelling for 11 years and in
my house on Palace Ave with my wife and now my beautiful 7-month-old son for
the last six years.
I was a delegate for Paul Simon in 1988 but I really didnât get involved in
a campaign heavily until I saw Paul Wellstone in 1990 at a small gathering at
the MLK Center. I volunteered and did everything I was asked, phoning,
persuading, door knocking, sealing envelopes. Most of these tasks have been
pretty fun and easy for me ever since, especially when I was excited about the
candidate. (Iâm VERY excited about the candidate Iâm working for nowJ)
Iâve significantly helped successively Marcia Avner and Andy Dawkins for
Mayor â93, worked full-time for progressive Gubernatorial candidate John
Marty in â94, and helped Bobbi Megard for City Council â95, Benanav for
City Council â97 and for Mayor in â01. As the Senate District Chair from
â98 to â02 and as a Director, Iâve door knocked for every endorsed
candidate in the district. Between my work in Ward 4 and Senate District 64, I
know this district politically better than almost anyone and I love it and want
to make it better.
Professionally, Iâve worked for the Saint Paul Literacy Project, wrote and
sold books for a small press book wholesaler, worked at American Express
Financial Advisors, and have worked here at the county board for the last three
years. I was also an intern at the Central America Resource Center, traveled
to Central America in 1989, and have been an elder at my church â Macalester
Plymouth United Church (Presbyterian/UCC combined) for 6 years. I also hosted
a local tv show â âDonât Worry About the Governmentâ which won best
public Access TV program from the City Pages in 1998, for four years.
 My priorities are:
1) Maintaining our human service delivery system through the current
tough times and pushing hard against the legislature when it fails to
adequately support us;
2)       Transit â especially supporting light rail on the Central Corridor;
3) Housing â building work force and retirement housing in every part
of the city.
