Because the upcoming special election for Ramsey County Commissioner is so important, and there are so many good candidates running for the District 4 seat, the Progressive Caucus and the Senate District 64 DFL are co-sponsoring a Candidate Forum on Thursday, January 13th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The forum will be held in the Weyerhaeuser Memorial Chapel at Macalester College on Grand Avenue near Snelling.
There are currently six candidates who have confirmed they are running, and are seeking DFL endorsement -- Toni Carter, Anne Harris, Ken Iosso, Jim Mogen, Joanne Mooney & Joe Samargia. (Two other potential candidates, Stuart Alger and Donna Swanson, have decided not to run.) We anticipate that all six of the announced candidates will probably participate in the Candidate Forum. Ramsey County Chair Rod Halvorson will moderate the forum, and most of the time will be devoted to questions from the audience. With the special DFL Endorsing Convention scheduled for January 23rd, there is a very short time for people to get to know the candidates for the County Commission seat being vacated by Sue Haigh. The precinct captains in Senate Districts 64, 65 & 66 will be phoning all delegates who are eligible to participate in the endorsing convention*, but even if you are not a delegate or alternate from one of these precincts, you're welcome to attend the Candidate Forum. We would also appreciate anything you can do to spread the word about the Candidate Forum January 13th and the Special Endorsing Convention January 23rd. *The delegates to the District 4 DFL Endorsing Convention on January 23rd will be the same delegates elected at the 28 precinct caucuses last spring to serve at their respective Senate District Conventions. This includes 18 precincts in Senate District 64, 5 precincts in Senate District 65, & 5 precincts in Senate District 66. The precincts in Ramsey County's District 4 are: 1-1, 1-2, 1-5, 1-6, 1-7, 1-8, 1-11, 1-12, 1-13, 2-1, 2-2, 2-4, 3-1, 3-2, 3-7, 3-13, 3-14, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4, 4-5, 4-6, 4-7, 4-8, 4-9, 4-10, 4-15.
