I am happy to see the DNR coming out against this project. It goes
against what the neighborhood has set forth as a vision for the West
Side and, I think, would be even more of a disaster than Minneapolis'
Riverplace boondoggle from the '80s.

An environmental review of a $1 billion development proposal across the
Mississippi River from downtown St. Paul doesn't address key issues
aimed at protecting the river corridor, a state agency says.

In a formal response to a plan for the Bridges of St. Paul development,
the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said it falls short of
the city's own comprehensive plan and fails to protect the river's
visual qualities.

St. Paul developer Jerry Trooien has proposed a mix of housing, retail
and entertainment on 74 acres along the West Side river flats, with at
least five buildings rising 25 to 30 stories and another seven that are
11 or 12 stories. That, in turn, has prompted concerns about the
development's impact on the riverfront.
