Ee by gum, yer a cheeky sod.
I was just thinking about Brighton the other week when we went to the Como
Park, I mean McNeely, Conservatory. Or did I see "Quadrophenia" again?
Does your bell boy look like Sting, perchance?!
Anyway, back here in Saint Small we got a whopping 1/4" of snow. Kids are
playing in it, but there's been a lot of head injuries, the daft things.
Belinda says it's going to be colder than Ted Williams' willie this weekend
so you're lucky your sub-zero temperatures are of the Centigrade variety.
(Have you noticed Brits love to talk about the weather?)
In their American Civics class at Nacel International HS on Hewitt Av, two
Germans, a Bangladeshi, and a Russian have formed a new American political
party. If I can ever get over their death penalty thing, I might leave The
Silly Party and join them. Their youthfulness comes shining through with
planks like:
"create special forces to attack terrorists, not civilians"
"for every nuclear weapon that we make other countries destroy, we
destroy two" (they like to pretend they're Yanks)
"establich world minimum wage (through diplomacy)"
"big industries should be made to donate a specific amount of money
to the state (apart from corporation tax), or employ a certain number of
unemployed or disabled people"
"tobacco and alcohol taxes up" (one of the Gerrys is sleeping
outside tonight)
"men and women have to join the civil service (mandatory)"
"150 hours of community service should be mandatory for people who
wish to become US citizens" (she can start with 150 minutes of cleaning
the house)
"join the Kyoto accords"
and a couple of my favourites,
"take over pharmaceutical industries"
& "try to prevent teenage pregnancy" (dressing like a sensible
Minnesotan might help)
In other news, there's not much new, but the latest hasn't come out yet.
Just when someone mentioned "14 bald eagles in St. Paul," I saw two of them
back at the Old DNR Buffet (Fish Hatchery Road). Hopefully they're only
eating those mutant, hermaphroditic walleye, or zander.
The Swarm are gearing up for their home opener next Friday (they won their
season/franchise opener in Rochester by one goal). It's Chamber Night
(Commerce, not Orchestra), but I'm not sure what that entails. Maybe the
first 1,000 fans get a neck tie or something. I do know that the day
before you can go to the Chamber's Swarm Reception for an "investment" of
$35. This gets you free hors d'ouevres and "the enjoyment of a cash bar."
But hey, it's at 317! Anyway, Go Swarm! (The Great One thinks NEXT NHL
season is in jeopardy, too! Could be time for Metro State to field a
team...)
So, this is St. Paul! Hope this lessens your homesickliness. Enjoy your
trip - more of a "mission," really - and give my love to Liz. TTFN.

01/10/2005 07:57 [StPaul] World Premiere of GSE
PM Video
I'd just like to announce the successful premiere of a video done by
John Birrenbach, for E-Democracy.Org, about how local residents used
the St. Paul Issues Forum to deal with GSE. Thanks John!
Andrew Hines appearance in the video was met with particular acclaim.
His Auntie Betty send her regards and congratulates him for his fine
performance. ;-)
Dave Thune, Dori Ullman, Tim Nelson, and Diane Gerth also appear in
the 10 minute video. We also showed 10 minutes from an interview done
with Mayor R.T. Rybak, of Minneapolis, about his involvement in the
Mpls Issues Forum.
Our audience included about 25 residents of Brighton England, who
showed up for a public meeting about the possible launch of a
Brighton Issues Forum, based upon the E-Democracy.Org model.
As some of you know, we've been collecting stories and testimonials
from E-Democracy.Org participants in preparation for this trip. The
results have been inspirational. I've been extremely pleased at the
number of people who have been willing to step forward and share the
reasons why they participate in the forum and the outcomes that they
have seen as a result of their participation.
I would like to thank all of the participants in our forum for their
part in making the St. Paul Issues Forum such an energetic and
stimulating center of public discussion in our community.
Best wishes,
Tim Erickson
