As has been stated in this forum, neighborhoods were razed on the river
flats to make way for industry. Unfortunately, there is a lot of hurt
and resentment out there because with our second phase of urban renewal
(the first being the removal of neighborhoods for industry), highly
expensive housing is being planned for that area in view of downtown
while around the bend, where the neighborhood is low income and crime
ridden, the Port Authority and PED have written in plans and said
during land deals, that industrial activity in the southern channel
shall be "intensified." So, the way that it goes is gentrification,
gentrification, gentrification.
