I am going with others from Arlington High School on bus. My son attends
Arlington and I have worked on staff at Arlington for the last four years now.
These cuts are beyond the pale for any school district in Minnesota. In Saint
Paul, we serve a large number of newly landed immigrants to this country that
require much more money to be spent on the educational system for all students
in the district. We need to squarely state by showing up that we will not
tolerate the Education system in Minnesota to deteriorate any further without a
fight.

I would encourage any and all to attend and let your voice be heard, not only
by your presence at the rally itself, but that you would take the time to write
a letter to your elected representatives to see that they understand where you
stand.

Hope to see many of you at the rally personally, and if you haven't thought
about coming as of yet, consider coming and standing with Minnesotans from all
over the state, with one voice raised in support of our schools.

Thanks.

Here's a personal reason why my kids and I are going to the capitol tomorrow.
Battle Creek Elementary - which has been amazing for the two of my kids going
there
  - is looking to lay off eight staff positions next year despite increased
challenges
in language, special education, and other areas. My first grader came home
with the
news that her classroom aide is on the chopping block for next year, leaving
our
outstanding teacher trying to meet all the individual needs of 26 kids
(likely more,
as teachers will also be cut and force more kids into each classroom).

This is real - this isn't some imagined consequence down the road, though our
political leadership seems to think they can keep pushing off consequences
past the
next election. I could go on and on about what the schools are doing to
prepare our
kids for the next generation workforce, etc... You know all that. Realize
this:
these cuts are happening right now, they are affecting kids right now, and we
will
be paying the price for it for many years to come.
