In all the discussion of mayoral candidates, I just wanted to remind everyone that there are 3 school board seats open this year and the caucus-ward convention-city convention sequence under discussion also leads to the critical endorsement of school board candidates. Incumbents Elona Street-Steward and John Brodrick are actively running, and unless/until she is elected to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners, Toni Carter is also part of this mix (she may not hold 2 positions so would resign from the Bd by 4/1). As their colleague, active volunteer, and parent, I can't say enough about these great candidates, and would very, very much appreciate if you'd include them in your thinking beginning tonight at the caucuses. In addition, if Toni is elected to the County Bd, we must have in place another thoughtful and progressive candidate who's committed to our mission of a "Premier education for all," willing to truly represent our children's future, and pursue an aggressive, policy-level agenda to make sure we continue to go there. We haven't been sleeping since this special election began and certainly not since the primary, but because of the uncertainty, we haven't been able to shake loose any great players to make this run. So please look in the mirror, nudge your friends and colleagues, and encourage anyone who's interested to give it some very, very serious thought (fast!) -- and I'm happy to field calls from people who want to know more about either the responsibilities or how to launch a campaign. Finally, remember the kids ARE our future, and the people you elect to the school board this year will have a LOT of influence on that future. Let's all make it great! -- Anne Carroll, out recruiting for e-democracy and attending my caucus tonight in support of Elona Street-Stewart and John Brodrick for St. Paul School Board ;-)
