Welcome to all the wonderful new subscribers, and thanks to long-time list
participants.

I'm Anne Carroll, a huge fan of the entire e-democracy concept, moderator
Tim Erickson's great leadership, and everyone's participation! I look
forward to it getting better day by day....

Background and current interests:
-- Born and raised in St. Paul, lived elsewhere in US and also overseas for
a couple of years, and happy to now live here and raise a family in this
great community; parent of 2 (1 now in college) who've benefited from the
opportunities and support provided through St. Paul Public Schools, spouse
of 1 structural engineer teaching in Architecture dept at UM, and home to a
crazy Airedale; we've also hosted a number of high school and college
students in our home over the years
-- Elected member of the St. Paul Board of Education, beginning the 2nd yr
of my 2nd 4-year term. I always welcome questions, interest, concerns,
input, volunteers, and great ideas. Best way to reach me is via this email
address, or at 651-690-9156. Prior to that, long-time volunteer and site
council member in several St. Paul Schools as my children grew up.
-- Self-employed consultant specializing in public involvement, strategic
planning, and communications serving public and nonprofit sectors.
Particular areas of interest include authentic participation, especially of
underrepresented communities -- race, age, gender, income, location,
ability, language, access, education, etc.
-- Teach public involvement for graduate students at the Humphrey Institute
of Public Affairs at the UM, where I learn as much as I teach, and from
which I graduated c. 25 yrs ago

Top 2 issues for mayoral candidates to address:
1) how the mayor's office will provide tangible support (independent) St.
Paul Public Schools students so we can continue our progress toward becoming
the best district in the country serving ALL students who come through our
doors each morning
2) how the mayor's office will lead in authentically and routinely engaging
the broad spectrum of community members in all critical decision making --
because it's our community and our future, and we have both the right and
the responsibility to be a part of shaping both

Thanks again to everyone participating in this forum, and for spreading the
word!
