At 4:09 p.m., we've received unconfirmed reports that the Holman Field
Floodwall is back in the bonding bill. Alice Hausman and Sheldon
Johnson have worked hard to keep the floodwall out of the bonding bill,
but called last week for help.

Citizens responded. After a deluge of calls and emails to Senate
Offices, Sandy Pappas got our hopes up on Friday afternoon saying "The
dike is dead." As of this morning, however, all bets were off. No word
from Sandy, but a report from the Capitol at 4 p.m. that the dike is
back in the bonding bill.

How is it that three St. Paul senior senators with committee chairs
have been unable to dislodge the $2 million in bonding that isn't among
the city's legislative priorities and has been staunchly opposed by the
St. Paul City Council, the Friends of the Parks and the National Park
Service?

Sandy Pappas is on the bonding conference committee. From the moment
she was appointed to it, we were told, "If Sandy doesn't want the dike,
it won't be in the final bill."

Sandy Pappas - 296-1802
Ellen Anderson - 296-5537
Mee Moua, St. Paul Delegation Chair - 296-5285
Dick Cohen - 296-5931

Matt Entenza - 296-8799

I urge you, if you have a strong position on this issue, to contact our
St. Paul Senate delegation and House Minority Leader Matt Entenza to
seek their support in a final effort to save our Mississippi River
environment and the quality of life of our St. Paul residential
neighborhoods from the certain negative impacts of diking the floodplain
and expanding air service at MAC's Holman Field.
