Yost wrote, "How about arming security guards, as well as a handful of administrators and teachers who volunteer to be properly trained? I can hear the gasps echoing from Mac-Groveland to Crocus Hill."
In an editorial of universal significance, Yost's mention of specific St. Paul neighborhoods is notable. It strikes me in this and other editorials, one of Yost's objectives may be to open up and highlight a cultural divide in St. Paul, and of course beyond. That could be siezed upon by Mayor Kelly in his reelection bid (as well as in other elections), and create a rebellion against whatever power St. Paul's progressive community is perceived to have.
Kind of ugly if its true.

I don't know if i would say outraged but I certainly don't agree with his
opinion on arming teachers. It would have been a good piece on the effects of
social programs and "feel-good" legislation and possibly initiated a lot of
discussion on how effective these programs really are, if it weren't for the
talk of arming teachers with shotguns.
