I want to pipe up on this as a volunteer who's been working with Saint Paul
E-Democracy for the last several years.
The forum is non-partisan to encourage MORE civic discussion about our
community. The rather nave idea many of us have is more public participation
and more public deliberation in public issues will strengthen Saint Paul. My
opinion is if people have honest disagreements and respectful debate on the
forum, then we're actually getting somewhere.
So rather than say this a right or left leaning discussion group, we should
take the RADICAL position that it needs to exist for people who want to engage
in civic life in Saint Paul. Most of us will agree that there isn't enough
honest intellectual discourse in our public lives. We should all
be trying to remedy that.
