I suspect that this dike project has some pretty
powerful interests behind it. 3M, Northwest Airlines
and its toadies on the MAC board are all in favor of
the project. It probably wasn't hard for Kelly to get
these types to go to bat for him with the Governor. In
fact, Kelly was probably pushing this as hard as he
was because they wanted him to.
But holding every other St. Paul project hostage to
the dike was truly shameful. It perverted the
legislative process and thwarted the will of the
people. Let's hope this episode isn't forgotten come
election time.
