Me thinks you are being a bit hard on John Croman. While I understand the issue raised in his report that stated St. Paul legislators opposed the Mayor's initiative for the Holman Field dike, he isn't the only one that has it wrong. Check the latest Checks and Balances article on the Bonding Bill. www.checksandbalances.com or the direct link to the article. http://www.checksandbalances.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1&mid=692&ctl=Details&ItemID=334 I would like to invite John to join this forum. He would at least be able to pick up some information/opinion from those that post on the various St. Paul issues. However, I caution everyone. Many folks who posted on the subject of the Holman dike oppose it. Some because of their dislike for the mayor. Some for his "threats" to the St. Paul delegation. A couple of posts made comments about the increased noise over their neighborhoods. Yet, as I understand it, the flight paths of the airport do not go over residential areas. Instructors may have allowed their students out of the flight paths and maybe other pilots have also violated the flight paths as one poster noted. I think these issues could be resolved by enforcing the flight paths. The only reason I have heard that makes sense to oppose this dike is the possible damage caused by flooding areas that wouldn't flood without the flood wall. Yet there seems to be differences in these facts. Yes there are other POV that have been stated. We are the only city of our size that still has an operating airport in or near its core. We could bulldoze the runways and sell off the acreage for an industrial park. this would increase tax revenues. Of course there are other issues that I have mentioned. My issue with the mayor's initiative is how he attempted to take money from, was it the, STAR program to fund it; his treatment of St. Paul elected legislators and the threats he made regarding other St. Paul projects in the bonding bill.
