Neighbors,
Below is the April 2005 newsletter of the Minnesota Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance. We are offering lots of great rididng/repair classes this spring in Downtown St. Paul. We are also giving away bikes to those who want to make the switch from gas to pedal power. Please sign up on our site to receive these newsletters directly; we try to only send to the St. Paul list when there are new class schedules and other such generally relevant info published.

* My first year of bicycle commuting: By John Carlson
Last year in March I had decided that I was going to commute to work by bicycle. I had been sitting in front of a computer every day and most evenings and began to see my health deteriorate. I knew I had to do something as my eyes got worse, my middle section was ballooning out and walking a flight of stairs left me winded.

* On advocacy and bicycle building: President's April message
I had the great pleasure today of rolling up the big glass garage doors at the Sibley Bike Depot and letting the sun and clean spring wind gust through the tools, shiny bikes, and shelf upon shelf of sorted parts. Everyone in the room- the high school students taking the repair course, and the instructors passing down the tricky craft of wheel balancing, break tweaking, and crank yanking seemed drawn to the outside and the amazing urban landscape which has grown around our bike shop since our opening in 2001.
