Now just wait a minute-
I have been a liberal/progressive all my life on most issues, but I don't think
I could have been more clear in my post that bussing kids all over town hurts neighborhoods.
It doesn't take a 'republican' to say it. I said it already.
The reason I didn't talk about 'bussing' specifically, is that we don't have forced bussing here.
It is the magnets that create the need for bussing. Nobody is forced on a bus.
The first time I heard about bussing for integration, I was against it, and that goes
back 35 years. I am still against it. No matter how well intentioned it is a tactic,
it uses the kids as a sort of weapon against racism. We need good schools in ALL
neighborhoods, and strong neighborhoods in all cities.
We need to fight racism by providing equal opportunity for success, not by forcing people
to move, or by forcing kids on busses.

I guess it's up to the republican to state the obvious. What Bob and Tom are longing for are the days before school bussing.
