Another online amazon-like indie consortium is abebooks.com.
it has the advantage of being able to search by location, so you can
look and see if the book you want is at a local bookstore. Only works
if the bookstores catalog their books and sign up, of course, but some
of them do - Rag and Bone did, I used to see books from there all the
time.
Micawber's always seemed a nice enough bookstore, pleasant
surrounding, good local selection, good location near whatever the
Taste of Scandinavia calls itself nowadays, but when I mention it to
book lovers, noone has heard of the place. Liam's, I think it's
called, in nordeast mpls, is a used bookstore with a great history
selection, noone seems to have heard of them either.
