It's gone this far has it? Now, the free library is an
illegimate function of government according to the Ayn
Rand types. It seems to me that bookstores and
libraries managed to co-exist for quite a long time.
To call public libraries the "primary competitors" of
the bookstores is to ignore that fact.

What's caused the demise of independent booksellers is
not public libraries. It's the chains like Barnes &
Noble and the online sellers like Amazon.

Of course, that doesn't fit the extreme ideology of
the "government is evil" mob so they've got to point
the finger at public libraries. Ridiculous!
