Tim & forum community, I served as a "teller" at the convention, helping to count the ballots, since I was an alternate and there were enough delegates for my Ward so I was unlikely to get upgraded. Wow, can I just say that the energy at Arlington H.S. was palpable? After an initial ballot count of 500+ votes, even though it took us about 5 (or was it 6?) school board votes to wrap it up, the final tally was still in the 470+ vote range (and that's 3 ballots AFTER the mayoral endorsement) and we didn't finish until almost 5p.m. The fact that so many stayed for the school board race indicates to me that people are activated and ready to fight as we need to for the battles ahead. All of the candidates, including those who did not advance, were very gracious and respectful in their speeches. Though the process was slightly chaotic, as democracy tends to be even in the best of circumstances, it was very well-run (many kudos to John Sherman, the head teller, who kept things moving at an efficient clip). Cheers & best of luck to all advancing, Cristy Ward 3, Highland Park
