The current whale tail design will be replaced, not because it isn't popular, 
but because the artist for the current design no longer wants it used without 
receiving royalty payments.

Funds derived from the current whale tail license plates go into the coffers of 
the Coastal Commission. Assmeblyman Jared Huffman, D-6th district, wisely 
observed that another design from another artist could be used instead. His 
legislation enabled the current design contest.

I see this as a great opportunity for an artist to support the California 
Coastal Commssion. I don't know that many artists, good or bad. Hopefully, if 
you don't participate, you can spread the word among your colleagues.

Who knows, it might be a fun thing for your grand children to try, too!
