The word "deserve" is meaningless.  I doubt we'd be liking life if
everything that happened to us, we could see a clear causal link to our
behavior.  We are fortunate in that we do NOT get everything that's "coming
to us".  The word "deserve" implies that there is some supernatural modicum
of fairness in this world-- so put the concept of "Just Deserts" right up
there with the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny.   It Just Ain't So.
