The New Yorker article says they used an fMRI machine for the research on psychopaths. The illustration I did for the Brookhaven National Lab was a PET or Positron Emission Tomography Scanner. They were using it at the time to discover what parts of the brain are active under the influence of addictive drugs. It creates a 3D image of those active parts.
