What we need are new products. Other than a few new gizmos we're just upgrading & replacing shit as it falls apart. What's to labor on? What's to buy? We can't just keep building new cars & houses. It worked once. We even created a huge generation of consumers. We need to set up a new lifestyle for the society. Obama's relief for R&D is a good step for that. Renewable energy, electric transportation, rebuilding old cities in some sort of way.... I don't know about telling women that a college education will harm their fertility is a good way to go again.
:-)
Thing is, if we want to maintain a 20th century economy we need to continually re-invent it one way or another & do it over and over & over again.
I'm guessing that's not sustainable.
