We should try it with less government oversight/interference. You suggest "we"
need to set up a new lifestyle around renewable energy, electric transportation
and rebuilding old cities. If that's what you want, and it's truly feasible,
then we get their soonest by getting government out of the way and allowing
private entrepreneurs (of the non-government crony variety) to do it.

We're always going to need shelter, which needs to be maintained. Wood has
worked pretty damned good as it is a renewable resource and there are plenty of
tradesmen skilled in its use. But there is no doubt there is a need to build
more durable, energy efficient homes.

We're always going to need food. The earth needs to be prepared for seed, the
plants must be tended to grow, the crop harvested and delivered to storage
warehouses and distributed in population centers.

And clean water for our use as well as a healthy ecosystem.

We tend to keep pooping, too. That needs to be collected, processed, and
delivered away from population centers.

We're easily bored. We need something to do. More literature, science and arts
help. Another need that government is very lousy at fulfilling.

I could go on, but it may not be sustainable.
