Listening to the protesters, the boys in blue aren't the problem, and actually have started refusing to come to stand in rows and "protect" the city from these obviously peaceful people. Every time I've watched the livestream, there are hundreds of uniforms though, sometimes almost double the number of protesters. I can't imagine what the NYC budget looks like now, and it's even more ridiculous that in this "age of austerity" this intense level of paranoia is what's costing them so much money. The uniforms have joked about loving having them there so they can make some extra, since they are facing cuts in hours and pensions. The protesters continue to make it clear that the blue uniforms have been professionals; it's their bosses that aren't. The general assembly is fascinating to watch, it's democracy in action, in its most pure form. The discussions are quite succinct, due to the need for the people's mic. They've got quite a system down for this whole process, and have been whittling away at their statement, using consensus to hammer out the details. This site explains that process, but I recommend watching the stream for the meetings, which are daily at 7pm, and sometimes go on for several hours. Tonight's was very well attended, I think there were 500 people there. http://takethesquare.net/2011/07/31/quick-guide-on-group-dynamics-in-peoples-assemblies BTW, although they welcome corporate media, they're moving on without it, and leaving the quicker-on-the-uptake outlets to try to catch up. Social media is blazingly fast, and I've seen the livestream viewer counts hit upwards of 100,000 within moments of something interesting going on. I haven't seen it drop below 1600, and that was around 3am EST, when only the watchers were awake. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "StrataList-OT" group.
