Actually until the republicans were allowed to defund the pensions in the 80's 
and 90's via corporate accounting tricks enabled by deregulation (or in the 
case of places like New Jersey, simply refusing to pay what they were supposed 
to), all of these pension plans, private and public were perfectly sustainable. 
But it's not the 'Conservative Way' to avoid stripmining the wealth of the many 
to profit the few...
