I am thinking along the lines that a ranch is relatively huge.

One thing that popped into my skull when I was looking to buy a house was, "you 
don't own your neighbor's property".
Of course not. Except in California.

I've seen a number of people burned on that.
How?
people bought land thinking the farm or undeveloped land adjacent to their property would stay that way.
