drum scanners are migrating from businesses to people's homes (usually photographers) so the issues seem to be changing....
on a drum scanner mailing list, this popped up:

Ok sorry for the weird question.....but I have recently acquired two cats and
live in a studio/loft type carriage house apartment. I also recently acquired
a DPL 8000 - lives up in the loft and there is no way I can keep the cats from
getting up there. I'm not too worried about dust and hairs as I have been able
to keep the area clean so far. But I am worried that the cats, well 1 in
particular, likes to use the scanner and the table it sits on as a platform to
jump on when going between the window and floor. The window is about 2 feet
above the scanner, and the cat weighs a little less than 10lbs at this point.
The scanner seems to have a pretty tough exterior, but I worry that eventually
the jostling could lead problems.
Any thoughts? Should I worry about this? I haven't noticed the cat near the
scanner while its running as I think the noise keeps her at bay.
