local broadcast news here is utterly useless. It's basically a list of who got killed/injured. My hometown newspaper used to carry that in a column back by the classifieds. Figuring out an advertising model to subsidize subscriptions is going to be the big bitch. The local paper has maybe 1 article a week that is of real interest. The TV stations, maybe 4-5 times a year.

It may move towards followers of trusted reporters. For example, Michael Totten
was way ahead of most broadcast news outlets with his stories on the Iraq War.
Greg Hunter is a favorite of mine on economic issues, not because he knows what
he's talking about but because he asks the same questions I would ask.

You can go on down the line for just about any category. Take the recent
breakdown of the dingo story by Mex. That's worth a buck a month to hear that
from someone that follows the story.

That's where I think it could go. Heck, you could be the guy to describe inner
city blight and how best to fight it (or what to avoid). I'd pay 25 cents a
month for that.

yeah, I know what's going on.
Local paper is $200/yr for paper & $170/yr for PDF. Their home delivery is
terrible. Their state coverage is poo.
Gannett is going to a pay system for all their local papers & keeping USA Today
free.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the news industry.

That's because their revenues are decreasing, both from subscriptions and ad
dollars. I would encourage such papers to offer an electronic version. Although
I canceled my $50/yr subscription to a local newspaper, I'd gladly pay half
that for an electronic version via email.
