Victor and Emmanuel, thanks for your answers. With them, and the later discussion on similar topics I think I understand. Part of my confusion comes from a bug I've not been able to repeat. At one point in time I changed the 'attribute' property to 'name' and my application stopped working. It seems that I had done something else (not sure what) and the problem had nothing to do with using 'name'. I've just tried to repeat it in isolation and I can't.
