Having a stunning ocean view home usually means lots of big floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. This makes for dramatic views from the home. However, it also means lots of ambient light and, unfortunately, light is a home theaters worst enemy. When this specific homeowner came to high-end AV engineering firm, Sound Solutions in Los Angeles to convert their large den/study into an ocean view media center, the design and implementation challenges they were presented were numerous. The room is warm and inviting when you walk into this 28x26-foot den. Besides the view out the window, a round central conversation area is the focal point of the room. The cabinets, window frames and doors are crafted from rich, luxurious woods, the walls have original artwork and the fireplace is right out of an 1850s Shropshire manor. At first glance, this room is completely devoid of any sign of AV equipment. That is, until the homeowner proudly picks up his Creston touch screen remote control and pushes a button. Unless youve been living in Madagascar, you probably already know that this is based on a series of graphic novels written and drawn by Frank Miller (who appears briefly in the movie as a corrupt priest). Instead of adapting the comic, Robert Rodriguez has reproduced it in living motion. He chose to be so faithful to the book that he enlisted Miller as the co-director, a decision that led to Rodriguez resigning from the Directors Guild of America. Unlike huge faceless corporations, Sunfire is the unique, personal vision of one audio genius, Bob Carver. Most audio geniuses would be content to have founded just two landmark audio companies. But after creating Phase Linear and Carver Corporation, Bob still had more innovative technology in his system. He wanted to express these ideas in meticulously-built, premium audio products that would offer exceptional value and sound quality. And thats what you get when you buy Sunfire. A great product from the mind and soul of Bob Carver. http://www.avrev.com/splashpage/sunfire.html Revolution Home Theater Featured DVD Reviews Read Two More Bruce Willis DVD Reviews on RHT... Die Hard The original Die Hard has practically become synonymous with the epitome of a non-science-fiction action film. It is therefore surprising on revisiting the movie to see how long the pyrotechnics take to get underway. Twenty minutes into the film, in Chapter 5, theres some quick, one-sided gunplay; were all the way into Chapter 8 before theres a major fight with sustained gunfire. The running-jumping-blasting-bodies-flying ruckus that everybody remembers kicks in for real on Chapter 14. Its a credit to the mood sustained from that point on by director John McTiernan and screenwriters Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza, adapting Roderick Thorps novel, that the impression left afterwards is one of nonstop conflict. Bruce Willis plays John McClane, a New York City cop whos in Los Angeles for Christmas to visit his estranged wife Holly... By now, sections of the movie have been parodied in everything, even 'Antz.' Indeed, a whole (pretty lame) feature-length send-up, 'Plump Fiction,' even found its way into theatres. 'Pulp Fiction' permanently injected Tarantino into the cultural vocabulary, reanimated John Travolta's career--forward up to Chapter 10 if you can't wait to see for yourself that he's still got his dance moves--and informed the uninitiated what cheeseburgers are called in France. With all this baggage heaped on top of it, 'Pulp Fiction' still manages to stand up perfectly well on its own. Tarantino, working from stories he created with Roger Avary, divides 'Pulp' into four interlocked plot threads...
