I think most sane divers (ok, most divers who think like me, I am sane by
definition, so therfore...) use 1.4 for bottom gas and 1.6 for deco gases.

Making 1.6 the default for all gases is odd - but making 1.4 the default
is far worse as it doesn't get the expected result for deco gases.
