I'm curious how this helps. One of the things that are so hard about
translating manuals is that it is just a long flow of text, not mostly
independent strings.

This is not really for the translation itself (even if close sentences or
sentences already translated from user interface can be reused using advanced
translation tools such as lokalize and others), but it is really helpful for
maintaining translation. I mean when sentences are modified, you catch them
immediatly and you can see quickly what the changes are.

Note that it is not perfect, since the po4a tool loose some list item indexes
during
PO to ASCIIDOC conversion (see asciidoc warning messages during user manual
generation).
Interesting. I'm not sure exactly what the impact of this is. I see no
harm in adding this (but I need to stare at it a bit longer)...

I sent an e-mail to po4a dev list and apparently, list items lost are due to
our malformed asciidoc file. (Should be checked).

Thanks for working on this. I have a huge amount of respect for people
doing massive translations like this. That is HARD work.

PO files can also help if a number of person are working on translation (on the
same file) by using merging tools (msgmerge) to merge easily all the work done.
