It's my understanding that even the Qt team is slowly moving away from qmake. Right now I'm happy to see both maintained. In my infinite spare time I hope to be able to adjust my various build scripts to use cmake at which point we can start deprecating the qmake side. So as a statement of intended direction, I think eventually cmake will be the future. But right now, given how I have things set up, I will always ensure that qmake works as intended and maintain cmake when I get around to it (or, better, when someone sends patches).
